I'll be honest. When I first heard about the She Reads Truth Bible studies and app a few years ago, I didn't jump on board. I was hesitant because it just seemed like the cool new thing to get involved in. But I was wrong. It wasn't until this past year that I truly learned about the ministry and hearts behind it. And I'm so glad I did.

She Reads Truth is grounded in solid theology and a desire for women to open up their Bibles and dive deep into the Word. It is not a new fad to get women less connected in real life and more connected online, but it is in fact a beautiful tool to get women engaged in the eternal Word and the eternal God revealed in it and speaking with it. I am grateful for the ministry of She Reads Truth and the dedication they have to providing Bible studies filled with the truth of the gospel and constantly pointing to Jesus.

So when I heard the lovely ladies behind She Reads Truth were releasing a book, I was quite excited! I wasn't quite sure what to expect from the book, but once I started reading I couldn't stop.
She Reads Truth is written by two authors, Raechel Myers and Amanda Bible Williams. Raechel is the co-founder and CEO of She Reads Truth and Amanda is the Chief Content Officer. They go back and forth throughout the book writing chapters, with the name of the author listed at the beginning of each chapter so you know who is writing. And each chapter not only contains personal stories, but each is filled with timeless truths of God and Scripture. There are ten chapters and each one is packed with Scripture:

Introduction:  Passing Away
ONE:  What's in Your Cup?
TWO:  The Stack
THREE:  Remember Whose You Are
FOUR:  A Blue-Ribbon Girl
FIVE:  Exquisit Mercy
SIX:  Fresh Out of Hope
SEVEN:  Take a Seat
EIGHT:  Truth in the Dark
NINE:  Decaying Treasures
TEN:  She Is Me

The stories in these cover so many topics like dealing with the death of loved ones and the mental illness of loved ones, divorce and love and marriage, the tendency to strive and the need for grace, the realities of parenthood and hardships of financial strain, losing children and losing hope, and all of them share the gospel. All of them testify to the faithfulness of God and the permanence of His Word.

Some of my favorite quotes from the book are:
"He is the one permanent thing we find when we frantically grasp in the dark of our doubt and fear. He is the perfection we long for in the midst of our suffering and brokenness. He is the one sure thing we seek in our uncertainty. God is our immovable mountain, and we can find Him in His Word." (page 7)

"Our God is small-picture kind, and big-picture faithful." (page 18)

"Because God is who He is--good, holy, faithful, just--His promises are, by nature, unbreakable." (page 26)

"God's truth gives our temporary lives eternal significance." (page 36)

"We can stop chasing lesser affections, stop trying to make ourselves worthy of love. Jesus has declared us worthy. The matter has been settled." (page 49)

"The truth is, anything that diminishes or dishonors the work of Christ on the cross is a false gospel." (page 69)

"Because Jesus said yes in the garden--and only because of this--we can say yes to whatever we find in our own cups." (page 79)

"Contentment is having hope that is not dependent on our circumstances." (page 93)

"God's faithfulness is independent of and unaffected by our present circumstances." (page 100)

"I don't have to grasp for control because the control is already His. And He is good." (page 117)

"The body of Christ, His Church, is one of the most tangible evidences here on this temporary earth of the permanence of the gospel." (page 135)

"But when we hold tight to Permanent, and trust Him to carry the rest, we really can count all else as loss, long before it is ever lost." (page 160)

"I came to the Book for knowledge, but here I find that I am fully known. I came looking for faith, hope, love, but here I encounter Love Himself." (page 167)

"We hold tight because He holds us." (page 168)

"Our Savior does more than fill in the gaping holes of our brokenness. Our sovereign Lord does more than pick us up where we fall short. Our holy God holds all things together. He holds us together. His Word is not something we add to our life to get us from dawn to dusk. His Word is Life." (page 172)

She Reads Truth is like two memoirs put together with the goal of pointing the reader to the real Jesus found on the pages of Scripture. My favorite thing about this book was not that the stories were encouraging (although they definitely were), but it was that each story encouraged me to be in the Word. Each story reminded me of the ways God has proven Himself faithful in my own life and reminded me to never lose sight of the ways He proved Himself faithful throughout the ages and on the pages of His Word. There were times I was a bit distracted with how it jumped around between topics and between authors, but overall I would definitely recommend this book. It would make such a wonderful gift!

In a time where bookstores are overflowing with books declaring things less than the truth of the gospel, She Reads Truth is refreshing. A book that testifies to the timeless truths of Scripture and unashamedly affirms God's faithfulness and goodness and love and omnipresence is so needed and so appreciated. Raechel and Amanda shared their hearts and vulnerably invited the reader into their stories. I am grateful for their voices and their ministry and their book which speaks truth with grace and love.
