Money Making Mom

I stumbled upon Crystal Paine's blog, Money Saving Mom, awhile ago and have soaked up everything she has said since. Crystal helps women navigate through being frugal, living intentionally, and building personal businesses. She is genuine and helpful and inspiring. And I'm pretty sure we would be real life friends; there are so many things from her story that I resonate with.

So when the opportunity came to be part of the launch team for her newest book, Money Making Mom, I jumped on it. I knew this was a book I would want to read anyway and definitely fits for the season of life I'm in.

I was a bit daunted when I first saw the book though. I'm not the fastest reader and don't retain things easily, so I thought it would take me a long time to get through the 218 pages. But it turned out to be quite a quick read. Crystal's writing is so approachable and easy to grasp. She connects with her readers through her honesty and practicality.

I especially loved reading Crystal's personal account of finding her passions. It was encouraging to read it took her time to figure them out. It is so reassuring when others say they didn't always know exactly what path to take. Knowing it can take time to figure it all out is really comforting because that has been, and still is, my journey.

Money Making Mom is filled with inspiring stories and experienced wisdom. Crystal talks through the meaning of financial freedom, different business options, various ways to bring in income, and overcoming distractions and fears. She helps you embrace your unique story by realizing your skills and talents, passions and knowledge. And she wonderfully wraps it all up by explaining that generosity should be at the heart of it all.

Here are some of my favorite quotes from Crystal in Money Making Mom:
"Properly stewarded, money can be an amazing tool and a resource for those who need it not only to survive but to live with purpose." (page xiii)

"Financial freedom has a lot to do with cultivating a deeper perspective of life, a shift in priorities, and a greater significance in your purpose than you may have ever thought about." (page xiv)

"You have to believe that there are options out there that will work, regardless of your particular season of life or unique circumstances." (page 13)

"Focus on the progress you are making, even if it's just that you're not slipping further backward. Do what you can do and don't stress about what you can't do. Tiny steps in the right direction can add up to big change over time. Keep at it, keep counting your blessing, and keep moving forward." (page 37)

"It's good to take risks. It's good to do hard things. It's good to push ourselves. And it's good to step outside our comfort zones. So when you're starting out, set goals that scare you, at least a little." (page 56)

"If you don't live with purposeful intention, aimlessness will be the default." (page 57)

"Whatever your situation I want to encourage you to not give up You may need to change your plans, tweak your dreams, or alter you course. You might need to shelve the idea and start a new one. You may need to extend the deadline or revise the game plan. That's all part of learning and growing. But no matter what, don't give up. Winner aren't quitters. Keep going, keep pressing forward, keep learning, keep experimenting, and someday soon, you will start to see fruit from your effort." (page 67)

"It's not enough to dream; you need to do." (page 75)

"When you take small steps in the right direction--from reading books on how to make money, to having a positive attitude, to digging deep for opportunities--you grow as a person. And eventually, your opportunities grow in turn." (page 121)

"If you want your business to grow and continue growing and being profitable financially and otherwise, you have to work hard, persevere, and keep at it even when you would rather be doing something else. Complacency is a killer." (page 141)

"Stop living in fear and start living in faith. Fear paralyzes. Faith frees." (page 156)

"You have a unique perspective, experience, and insight that can bless and impact others in a way that someone else with a different story might not be able to." (page 160)

"It's amazing what's possible when you consistently show up, do the work, and stay the course." (page 212)

"You are the only you in existence. The world needs your story. The world needs your gifts. The world needs you. May your life be a force that channels change in this world." (page 217)

Hopefully those quotes will inspire you to buy and read the book! It really is so great. After reading you'll feel as though Crystal has been your coach and your cheerleader. She is supportive and encouraging in a very practical and real way.

I would say the only catch is it won't be for everyone simply because the timing isn't right for everyone. I know if I would have tried to read this even a year ago I would have felt a bit frustrated and discouraged. (Life with a baby was just hard!) But it is definitely wisdom that can be applied later on in a different season of life. So if you're searching, wondering, dreaming, I'd say at least go ahead and buy the book and begin to investigate what your options are, maybe even just begin to see you have options. It might be just the encouragement you need to see the multitude of opportunities before you. You just have to start somewhere. And Crystal can definitely help you start, even if you have to wait a bit before applying what she teaches.

Money Making Mom will help guide you towards a profitable future. Crystal's words will inspire and enlighten. She will help you navigate your own heart as well as your money making choices. I definitely recommend this book for any mama who needs, or wants, to generate income. Happy reading, friends!
