Holy Week is definitely one of my favorite weeks of the year, if not the favorite. Why? It's straight up Gospel week! This is the week that declares to the world a Savior has come; He died on the cross taking on the weight of humanity's sin; He rose from the dead conquering sin and death; He ascended into heaven and sits enthroned interceding for us and is coming again for His bride. This is the week of all weeks! As I've driven around town the past few days I've definitely noticed the Easter service signs in the lawns of churches. (We live in Nashville, so you know there is at least one church on every corner. Actually, just down the road there is an intersection with literally four churches at it.) But the thing that saddens my heart is the lack of churches having Maundy Thursday or Good Friday services. (Shoot, I won't even get carried away with asking for Thursday services, just Good Friday services!)
I'm not here to bash the Church. I dearly love the Church. Please don't get me wrong. After walking through Holy Week a bit differently for several years with my church in Jackson than I ever had before, I have a new perspective on Holy Week and I am forever grateful for it. This season of Lent and the events of Holy Week aren't just old traditions set aside for certain denominations. They are meant to enrich the lives of believers, fasten our hearts to our Savior, and send us out into the world sharing this grace-filled news with all. They are meant for all followers of Christ, not just some. The events of this week are what our faith stands on. And I am convinced that Resurrection Sunday is so much sweeter and joyous after you proclaim Hosanna! on Sunday, look at the way Jesus feasted with the disciples and washed their feet on Thursday, dwell on the agony Jesus endured on the cross on Friday, and take time mourning His death on Saturday. And I just want everyone to experience the fullness of Holy Week. Because it's just so good. This is the week of all weeks! As we walk through this week, may we soak up the Scriptures and fall madly in love with Jesus. As we walk through this week, may we be reminded of God's goodness and faithfulness in fulfilling the prophecies in His perfect way and perfect time. As we walk through this week, may we be filled with gratitude and see His grace in everything. Rejoice! It's Gospel week, y'all!
